Section 8AA golfers were among the best on Day One of the Girls AA State Golf Tournament at Ridges at Sand Creek in Jordan on Tuesday.  Madysen Maninga of Park Rapids Area had the top score of the day with a 74, while Sophie Cook of Hawley came in with a 75, Anna Eckmann of Park Rapids with a 76, Annika Jyrkas of Fergus Falls with a 77, and the Otters Annie Mayer turned in an 81.  Addicyn Zimmerman of Perham shot an opening round 99.

"Annie played great today," commented Fergus Falls Head Coach Ben Jurgens.  "She hit the ball rally well throughout the round, leaving her in good shape.  Annie played her last six holes even par.  Ana played a gutsy round of golf today.  She was so impressive mentally, being able to think her way around the golf course.  Her 60 degree around the greens was so fun to watch."

Three other players are tied with Cook for second place with 75’s.  They are Annie Neva of Pequot Lakes, Grace Petzold of Providence Academy and Jordana Windhorst Knudsen of Lake City.  Morgan Krieger of Pequot Lakes came in with a 76.

Lake City leads the team competition with a 322.  Pequot Lakes is second with a 329, followed by Providence Academy at 340.  Park Rapids Area and Redwood Valley are tied for fourth with scores of 356.
