Fergus Falls American Legion Post 30 continued tournament play in Wahpeton on Saturday, taking on rival Detroit Lakes Post 15.  Post 30 rebounded very well from a tough opening game loss on Friday, beating DL by the score of 3-2.

Riston Albert (4.2IP, 5H, 2R, 1ER, 3BB, 8K) started on the mound and pitched very well.  Carston Fronning (2.1IP, 1H, 0R, 2BB, 1K) came on in relief to pick up the win.

Leading hitters for Post 30 were Fronning (3-3, RBI), Brock Schuerman (2-3, 2B, 2R), Brandon Brown (1-2) and Evan Lindgren (1-3).

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning when Post 30 struck for two runs.  Colin Becker walked to lead-off the inning.  After a fly out, Schuerman doubled to right field, putting runners on second and third.  Fronning had a great at bat, battling back from 0-2 to work the count to 2-2 before smacking a single up the middle for a 2-run lead.

Detroit Lakes battled back in the fifth, scoring two runs on 3 hits and one walk.  With the game tied 2-2 in the bottom of the sixth, Schuerman again doubled to deep right field.  Fronning laid down a great bunt for a hit with the throw to first going wide to score Schuerman with the game winning run.

Detroit Lakes threatened in the top of the seventh with the lead-off batter reaching, but Fronning slammed the door ending the game with 3 consecutive curveballs to strike out the DL batter and end the game.

“Very proud of the boys’ effort tonight,” said Fergus Falls Head Coach Trevor Larson.   “We had great energy all game long and were playing for each other.  It’s always nice to see your efforts rewarded with a hard fought win!”
