The Park Rapids Area Panthers turned in an impressive team round on day two of the Section 8AA Girls Golf Tournament Tuesday at the Bemidji Town and Country Club, overcoming a four stroke first day deficit to win the section title with a two day total of 678.  Fergus Falls was second with a 694, Hawley took third with a 729, Roseau was fourth with a 747, Perham fifth with a 753 and Warroad sixth with an 807.

“Our girls played well again today,” stated Fergus Falls Head Coach Ben Jurgens.  “We broke 350 for the second day in a row and just four strokes higher than yesterday.  Credit to Park Rapids with a very impressive 329 today, to come back and with the section title.  They played really well in those top four spots.”

Medalist honors went to Anna Eckman of Park Rapids with a 140 (70-70).  Sophie Cook of Hawley was runner-up with a 145 (70-75) and Annika Jyrkas of the Otters came in third with a 146 (71-75).  Fourth place went to Madysen Maninga of Park Rapids with a 166, followed by Annie Mayer of Fergus Falls with a 168 and Kayla Thompson of East Grand Forks with a 176.

Rounding out the scoring for Fergus Falls were Olivia Jurgens (181), Hanna Bye (199), Ellie Bergren (208) and Shay Katzenmeyer (211).

“Hanna Bye and Olivia Jurgens had their best tournament of the year,” said Coach Jurgens.  “Ellie Bergren and Shay Katzenmeyer gained valuable experience, and Annika Jyrkas and Annie Mayer both qualified for the State Tournament.  Ana had a very impressive 2 days of golf, placing third overall as an individual.  Annie played solid golf both days, however, really played her last six holes well today to secure her spot at state.”

Addicyn Zimmerman led Perham with a 178, tying Ivy Tickel of Hawley, Samantha Peterson of Roseau and Talya Hendrickson of Warroad for 7th place.  Zimmerman won a playoff to earn the final individual state tournament berth.  Top Barnesville golfers were Ella Brasel (181) in a tie with Jurgens for 11th place, and Bella Snobl (185) in thirteenth place.

The Class AA State Tournament will be held at Ridges at Sand Creek in Jordan on June 13 and 14.
