Breckenridge Post 53 defeats Barnesville in the American Legion season opener 13-11. It was a high scoring affair with offense a plenty and both teams taking advantage of some defensive miscues.

Breckenridge started Peyton Christianson on the mound who went 3 2/3 innings while allowing one earned run and striking out 5 batters. Kaleb Albertson came in relief and went 1 2/3 innings. Cam Nieto got the win pitching the last 1 2/3 innings with 3 strikeouts.

Breckenridge was led on offense by Trey Vogelbacher who had 4 hits and 3 RBI, while Gavin Snyder and Gavin Hoffert each added two hits.

Post 53 got off to a slow start allowing 3 runs in the first inning but settled down after that. This was Peyton's first game back after not playing the high school season so he was a little rusty to begin with but he settled in nicely and finished his outing strong until he was removed due to the pitch count rule. Although we gave up 11 runs, our pitchers actually did a fantastic job throwing strikes and being competitive. We are a couple defensive plays away from not giving up very many runs. Our bats started slow but in the last 3 innings we scored 10 runs with competitive at bats and timely hits.

Breckenridge travels to Ashby on Tuesday June 6th for a 6:30pm game.
