The Fergus Falls girls’ golf team leads the Section 8AA Tournament after the first day of competition, with Park Rapids Area 4 strokes behind in second place and Hawley third, 15 strokes behind the Otters.  Roseau sits in fourth place, followed by Perham and Warroad.  The second day of competition is Tuesday at the Bemidji Town and Country Club.

“We are really proud of the girls,” said Fergus Falls Head Coach Ben Jurgens.  “They played really well today.  Hanna Bye played a solid round for us.  She hit her target score and we used it in our team total.  Annika Jyrkas was so good from tee to green it was fun to watch and the entire team performed nicely.  We have some great competition in Park Raids and Hawley, and each team has one of the co-medalists with a 2-under par 70.”

Anna Eckmann of Park Rapids Area and Sophie Cook of Hawley share first day medalist honors with scores of 70, while Jyrkas is third after firing a 71.  Annie Mayer of Fergus Falls is fourth with an 85, Kayla Thompson of East Grand Forks is fifth with an 87 and there is a 3-way tie for sixth with Ivy Tickel of Hawley, Madysen Maninga of Park Rapids Area and Samantha Peterson of Roseau all shooting 88’s.  Four players carded scores on 89 are in a tie for ninth place.  They are Addicyn Zimmerman of Perham, Bella Snobl of Barnesville, Olivia Jurgens of the Otters and Talya Hendrickson of Warroad.

Rounding out the Fergus Falls scoring were Bye with a 100, Ellie Bergren with a 106 and Shay Katzenmeyer with a 107.
