The Breckenridge Bucks and Fergus Falls Hurricanes squared off Sunday in an Amateur baseball game with the Canes coming out on top, 2-1.  “It was a well-played game,” stated Breckenridge Head Coach Kevin Hiedeman.  “Both teams had only one error and both pitchers threw great.”

Mitch Porter (8IP, 5H, 11K) went the distance, taking the loss.  Jack Hiedeman led the way offensively for the Bucks with 2 of their four this.  Tommy Hiedeman had a single and the only RBI, and Brayden Wall had a double.

“Statistically, this game was about as close as you can get,” said Coach Hiedeman.  “It’s just that Fergus was able to pick up one of their five hits at just the right time in the bottom of the seventh, scoring what proved to be the winning run.”

Winning pitcher Darin Stanislawski (9IP, 18K, 2BB, 4H, 1ER) improved his season record to 3-0 with an impressive outing on the mound.

“Classic pitchers’ duel with both guys’ throwing complete games,” reported Canes Head Coach Davy Johnson.  “Darin finished strong with 7 of the last 9 outs coming via strikeout.  Canes got the clutch hit with Brandon Brown’s first Canes hit being the game winner.”

Hitting leaders for Fergus Falls were Carter Thielke (1-2, R, SB, BB, HBP), and Pete Gaustad (1-4, 2B).

Fergus Falls is now 5-0 on the season.
