This past weekend the Alexandria Girls Golf Team participated in the Tri-State Invitational at Bunker Hills Golf Club in Coon Rapids.  This event is gaining a reputation as the most prestigious girls’ golf event in Minnesota.  Bunker Hills Golf Club is also the host course for the State AAA Tournament in June.  The event was played this past Friday May 19th and Saturday May 20th.

The field for this event was loaded with some very talented teams and individuals from all 3 classes of golf in Minnesota.  Top 20 teams and their state rankings included:  Minnetonka (1), Maple Grove (2), Edina (3), Chaska (5), Alexandria (8), East Ridge (10), Eastview (11), Detroit Lakes (14), Northfield (16), and Orono (20).  After completion of the first day of play, the Cardinals were leading this talented field by 2 strokes over Section rival Detroit Lakes.  Maple Grove put together a dominating 2nd day performance to ultimately win the event by 23 shots, with Detroit Lakes finishing 2nd, Minnetonka 3rd and Alexandria 4th.  Only 4 shots separated Detroit Lakes, Minnetonka, and Alexandria.

The Cardinal's Hannah Boraas was the individual champion with a very fine 2-day score of 1 over par 145 (71-74).  This was 5 shots better than the nearest competitor, Selena (Sivu) Wu of Minnetonka, who recorded a 150 (74-76).  Nicole Reineka of Chaska was third with a 151 (76-75), Ava Hanneman of Orono also fired a 151 (79-72) and Annika Hendrickson of Maple Grove was fifth with a 152 (78-74).

The Cardinals will compete in Day 2 of the Central Lakes Conference Championship on Monday, May 22 at the Territory Golf Course in St. Cloud.
