The Fergus Falls softball team swept the Willmar Cardinals 7-5 and 19-15 on Thursday.  “It was a battle all night with each game going 9 innings,” reported Head Coach Devonie Smith of the Otters.  One team would get ahead and the other would respond.  We had a total of 29 hits, 9 in the first game and 20 in the second game.”

Rylynn Krein pitched all 9 innings in the first game with 19 strikeouts and only 2 walks.  Karyssa Eberle started pitching the second game and had 4 strikeouts and one walk.  Krein came in to relieve Eberle and struck out 2 batters.  Jen Neigel pitched the ninth, helping to clinch the win.

McKenzie Sjolie had a solid night at the plate with a total of 6 hits and 4 RBI, including a walk-off double in the first game.  Madi Budke had 4 hits and 3 stolen bases in the second game and Krein delivered 4 hits and 2 RBI in game two.  Budke, Krein, McKenzie, Eberle, Hattie Fullhart, Bella Abrahams and Kendal Hanson each had multiple hits in the second game.

“We really had strong bats spread out throughout our whole lineup tonight,” said Coach Smith.  “The girls had to overcome a lot with 12 games in the last week.  We have a lot of tired and sore girls right now and it really came down to their mental toughness and pushing past their limits.  These are great wins to have going into the playoffs.  I’m so proud of the hard work and drive they have had over this whole season, but even more so within this last week.  They continue to impress me as they are always leaving everything they have on the field.”
