Rebels Swept by Yellowjackets in HOL Baseball

Perham won a pair of Heart O’ Lakes Conference baseball games from Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton on Thursday, posting wins of 11-7 and 7-5.

The Yellowjackets banged out 14 hits in the opener with Evan Kovash (2B), BB, 4R) and Austin Schmelz (3B, BB, 4RBI) each going 3-for-3 at the dish.  Blaiz Schmidt (2-3, BB, 3R) and Ashton Detloff (2-4, 3RBI) also had multiple hit games, and Ben Shumansky delivered a solo home run.  Detloff (6IP, 8H, 6R, 5ER, 2BB, 6K) was the winning pitcher.

DGF was led by Jordan Summers (4-4, 2B, HR, 2RBI, 2R), Owen Hoover (1-4, 2B, 2RBI) and Grant Anderson (1-4, RBI, R).

Game two saw Perham take a 4-1 lead after two innings, however, DGF put a 4-spot on the board in the third, taking a 5-4 lead.  Perham scored the tying run in the fifth and then won it with a pair of 8th inning runs.  Leaders for the Yellowjackets were Gavin Griffin (3-5, RBI, R), Brock Melgard (3-5, SB, 2RBI), Ben Shumansky (2-3, R), Evan Kovash (1-4, BB, 2R) and Gage Bye (0-2, RBI, R, 3BB, SB).  Kovash (5.2IP, 1H, 0R, 2BB, 5K) was brilliant in relief, earning the victory on the mound.

Leading the Rebels at the plate were Summers (3-4, 2B, SB, RBI, R), Peyton Aas (2-4, RBI), Grant Anderson (1-3, RBI, R) and Brody O’Keefe (1-2, RBI).
