The Rothsay softball team recorded a pair of wins over Ottertail Central on Monday, taking game one, 8-7, and winning game two, 11-10.  The Tigers improved their season record to 6-7 and will host Barnesville on Tuesday afternoon.

Rothsay scored 3 runs in the top of the 2nd, 1 in the 3rd, 2 in the fourth, 1 in the fifth and 1 in the sixth in game one, taking an 8-4 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning.  OTC rallied for 3 runs in the inning, but the rally fell just short.  Katie Reber and Bethany Danielson allowed a combined 5 hits and 9 walks, while striking out 5 batters.  Offensive leaders for Rothsay were Allison Phillips (2H, 2RBI) and Reber (2H, 2RBI).

Esme Larson led the Bulldogs offensively with 2 hits in 3 at bats, including a triple.  She drove in 2 runs and scored one.  OTC stole 15 bases in the game, led by Hannah Radzwill with 3.  Kaylee Trosdahl, Brooklyn Christianson, Liz Lukken, Mily Albjerg and Kenady Cameron had 2 steals each.

In game two, Rothsay took a 2-0 lead after one inning, however, OTC put 10 runs on the board in the top of the second.  The Tigers didn’t quit, coming up with 7 in the second and two in the fourth.  Neither team scored over the final 3 innings.  Madi Tollerud, McKenzie Tillman and Bethany Danielson all pitched for Rothsay, striking out 4 batters, issuing 9 walks and allowing 7 hits.  Leading the way at the plate were Phillips (2B, 3RBI) and Madison Tillman (2B, RBI).  Tollerud and McKenzie Tillman each added a hit.

Ottertail Central was led at the plate by Dealia Grabe (1-3, 2B, 2RBI), Liz Lukken (1-3, 3SB, 2RBI, R), Emma Dirkman (1-2, 2SB, RBI, 2R), Kenady Cameron (1-2, 2R, SB) and Kaylee Trosdahl (0-1, BB, SB, 2R).

“Today was such a fun day of softball even though we didn't come out on top,” commented OTC Head Coach Heather Akerman.  “It was nice to play two competitive softball games.  Our inexperience is getting in the way of our ability to finish games, but we are using each outing as a learning experience.”
