The West Central Area Boys golfers won a 9-hole meet at Minnewaska Golf club by one stroke over the host school Minnewaska Lakers on Wednesday morning.  They then traveled to Benson where they came away with a 1-stroke win over both Minnewaska Area and Morris Area

Team scores at Minnewaska Area were West Central Area 170, Minnewaska Area 171, Morris Area 180, Benson 184, Montevideo 188, Melrose 189, BOLD 198, and Sauk Centre 204.

"What an exciting tournament," said Knights Coach Kraig Hunter.  "We talk before each meet, the importance of every stroke and when it is that close it shows.  With all the groups done but one, WCA sophomore Sam Hanson drained an 8 foot putt to give us the 1-stroke win."

Leading the Knights were Mitch Dewey with a 39, Sam Hanson 42, Peyton Hanson 43 and Marshall Dewey 46.

Charlie Hanson of Morris claimed medalist honors with a 37 and Riley Larson of Minnewaska Area was runner-up, also with a 37.  Third place went to Mitch Dewey of the Knights with a 39, Logan Schad of Melrose was fourth with a 39, Thatcher Sherlin of Minnewaska Area came in fifth with a 41 and four golfers shared sixth place with rounds of 42.  Sam Hanson of WCA, Camden Helgeson of Montevideo, Mason Erickson of Morris and Ryan Tolifson of Benson.

Team scores in Benson were WCA 159, Morris 160, Minnewaska 160, Melrose 166, Benson 179, Montevideo 181, BOLD 184, and Sauk Centre 184.

Charlie Hanson of Morris continued his impressive play with another 5-under round of 31 on the par 36 course to lift Morris to second place.

Other individual medal winners were Logan Schad of Melrose (35) in second place, Riley Larson of Minnewaska Area with a 37, Mitch Dewey of West Central Area with a 38, and Marshall Dewey of WCA and Maverick Kulzer of Melrose with rounds of 39.

Coach Hunter said, "Once again, a lot of guys contributing in a 1-stroke win. Mitch Dewey made a 6-foot par save on the 8th hole, Marshall Dewey got up and down for par from over the green on the last hole, Cam Anderson had his season best round with a 41, and Sam Hanson had a good day as we used his score at both meets today.  It shows the depth of our team as two of our top golfers Brett Amundson and Marshall Dewey didn't have their best rounds in the first meet, but Peyton and Sam Hanson picked them up.  And then Cam coming through in the second meet.  Cole Anderson continues to improve as well shooting 44 and 47 today. Lastly, we have to give some props to Mitch. He is steady and consistent and is a big reason we are shooting low team scores."
