The Pelican Rapids softball team split a pair of games with lake Park-Audubon on Tuesday with the Raiders taking game one, 4-3, and the Vikings winning game two, 12-1.

Zayla Arrow (6.1IP, 5H, 5BB, 3K, 2ER) pitched a very good game, but two errors in the fifth and three walks in the sixth were costly,” stated Pelican Rapids Head Coach Derrick Nelson.  “We tied the game 3-3 in the top of the seventh and had runners at second and third, but were not able to take the lead.”

Top hitters in game one for the Vikings were Claudia Gurath (3-4, R, 2RBI, HR), Zayli Arrow (1-4, RBI) and Sylvia Pesch (1-3, 2R, BB).

In the second game, Pelican Rapids scored 11 first inning runs and never looked back.  Pesch (1-2, 2R, BB, 2RBI), Gurath (2R, 2BB), Zayli Arrow (R, 3BB), Zayla Arrow (1-3, R, BB, RBI), Ariana Villagomez (1-2, R, BB, RBI), Ava Simpson (1-3, R), Linea Thomas (1-3, R, 2RBI) and Kia Nelson (2R, 2BB) all contributed to the offensive onslaught. Nelson (5IP, 4H, 2BB, 6K, 1ER) was the winning pitcher.

“I am proud of the girls for the way they battled back after a disappointing defeat in the first game,” said Coach Nelson.  “The second game was cold and wet, but we were able to throw strikes and make the plays in the field to get the split.”

Pelican Rapids will host DGF on Thursday starting at 4:00pm.
