The M State baseball team saw their season come to an end with a pair of losses in their best-of-3 playoff series against the St. Cloud Cyclones on Friday afternoon. The Spartans lost 6-4 and 5-3. “We played really well, we just didn’t catch the breaks we needed,” said Head Coach Grant Harding. “So proud of my guys for always working hard and staying positive. I will really miss these guys.”
Aidan O’Brien started the game for M State, allowing six hits and four runs over four-and-a-third innings, striking out four batters. Offensively, Logan Pulju belted a 3-run homer in the third inning and Beau Fetting went 2-for-4 at the plate. Jackson Martin went 1-for-3 with a RBI and Mike Short walked twice and scored a pair of runs.
Brock Woitalla went 3-for-3 to lead the Cyclones and John Deschamps had a pair of hits. Christian Lessman (7IP, 4H, 4R, 13K) was the winning pitcher for St. Cloud.
In game two, Martin (2-4, 2 2B, RBI, R), Bryce Kruger (1-2, 3B, RBI, R) and Luke Ruter (1-2, RBI, R) led M State. Brett Engelmeyer (6IP, 5R, 8H, 4K, 1BB) took the loss.
Woitalla led St. Cloud with two hits in 4 at bats and stole a pair of bases. St. Cloud had 9 stolen bases in the game. Jacob Hendrickson (4.1IP, 3H, 2R, 8K) got the win and Landon Lunser threw two-and-two-thirds innings of relief out of the bullpen.
M State ends the season with a record of 8-22.
