Pelican Rapids scored four times in the second inning and went on to post a 5-1 win over Rothsay in a high school softball game on Thursday.  Kia Nelson (7IP, 4H, 1BB, 10K) was the winning pitcher for the Vikings.

Hitting leaders were Linea Thomas (2-4, R), Nelson (1-2, 2BB), Claudia Gurath (1-4, BB, RBI), Ava Simpson (BB, R), Valea Rodgrigues (BB, R) and Addison Walters (BB, R).

“Our infield of Zayla Arrow (1B), Linea Thomas (2B), Ava Simpson (SS), Ariana Villagomez (3B) and Zayli Arrow (C) played a very nice game tonight,” said Pelican Rapids Head Coach Derrick Nelson.  “Zayli picked a runner off third in the bottom of the third inning was a big momentum play in the game.”

Pelican Rapids will travel to Crookston on Monday for a game at 4:00pm.

The Tigers were led by Katie Reber (2H) and Madison Tillman (2B, RBI).  Lauren Reber and Elli Meyer each had one hit.  Katie Reber (3IP, 4R, 3H, 4K) took the loss in the circle.  Madi Tollerud (4IP, 1R, 1H, 8K) was strong in relief.

“We loaded the bases in the third inning, but didn’t score a run,” reported Rothsay Head Coach Anita Heier.  “We had one tough inning, defensively, but other than that it was a well-played game.  Our girls are learning every day and continuing to improve.”
