The Ottertail Central baseball team won a pair of games on Monday afternoon, beating Pelican Rapids, 13-7, and defeating Sebeka, 14-1.

OTC scored 9 runs in the first four innings of game one.  Pelican Rapids showed signs of a fight in the fifth inning, putting up 5 runs.  The offensive onslaught by Pelican Rapids was led by Jack Paulson, Kaden Holt, Luke Sjolie, Maclain Hovland, and William Pesch, who all drove in runs.  The Bulldogs responded with four runs in the sixth inning with a rally that started with a lead-off bunt single by Noah LinkKale Misegades followed with a single to center field and Owen Harig then bunted the runners over to second and third base.  OTC was able to capitalize on several stolen bases, wild pitches and a couple of Viking errors to score 4 runs in the inning.

Tyson Misegades (4IP, 3H, 3R, 4K) was the winning pitcher.  Kale Misegades and Drew Evavold entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.  Tyson was named player of the day by his fellow senior captain, Jayden Harig, who said, “Ty was big for us today.  He not only gave us a great start on the hill but he was always on base too, and causing chaos offensively.”  Tyson was 2-for-4 with a double, 4 walks, 5 runs scored, 2 runs batted in and 2 stolen bases.

The Bulldogs scored 9 runs in the first inning of game two, led by Jayden Harig, Hunter Haugen, Gavin Pausch and Lane Dilly who all drove in runs in the inning.  Haugen had a long ball that cleared the left field fence, scoring himself, along with Garrett Nelson who had walked and Harig who had doubled.  Pausch (5IP, 1R, 2H, 5K, 0BB) earned the win.  Assistant Coach Aeling applauded his pitcher and defense on the day, “Gavin did a great job keeping his defense focused by pounding the strike zone.  When pitchers and defense work together like they did today and then add this kind of offense, we are tough to beat.”

Freshmen Ayden Olson and Drew Evavold were asked about their team.  “This has been a really fun start,” said Olson.  “Everyone on the team has a role and we are just trying our best to complete goals.”

Evavold added, “We are a tough team, with everyone working together it is great to have some success early.”

The Bulldogs are now 6-1 overall and 4-1 in the Park Region Conference.  They will play at Wadena-Deer Creek at 4:30pm on Tuesday.
