“We started off slow by giving up five unearned runs in the first two innings,” reported Pelican Rapids Head Coach Derrick Nelson. “We settled down and played much better defense the last five innings. Staples did a very good job of making the defensive plays to shut down our rallies.”
Kia Nelson (7IP, 8H, 8K, 2ER) took the loss in the circle. Hitting leaders were Ava Simpson (3-4, 2R, 2RBI), Claudia Gurath (2-3, BB, R), Zayla Arrow (1-2, 2BB, 2R, RBI), Sylvia Pesch (2BB, R) and Nelson (1-2, 2BB, R).
Pelican Rapids will host Barnesville on Tuesday in a Heart O’ Lakes Conference double header starting at 4:00pm.
