The Ottertail Central softball team had a five game week last week, finishing the week on a positive note with a win over Pelican Rapids.

The Bulldogs played a double header at Menahga on Tuesday, April 25, losing both games.

OTC fell behind early and was unable to recover in a 11-0 loss to Menahga.  Again the Bulldog's bats were struggling throughout this game.  Brooklyn Christianson had the only hit for the Bulldog's in the first inning.  Winning pitcher Joie Koll (5IP, 1H, 0R, 9K, 0BB) was supported by a 9-run fifth inning from the Braves.  Aili Anderson had a pair of doubles and knocked in 3 runs, while Anna Pietila went 2-for 3 with one run batted in and 2 runs scored.

In game two the bats came alive, but Menahga posted a 21-9 win.  In the first inning, Dealia Grabe grounded out, scoring two runs.  Then the two teams went back and forth in the scoring column throughout the following two innings.  In the 4th inning, the Braves broke open the game and never looked back.  The Bulldogs totaled 8 hits.  Liz Lukken and Hannah Radzwill led the Bulldogs with 3 and 2 hits, respectively.  The Braves were led by Leah Weaver (4-4, 2B, 3B, 3SB, 4RBI, 5R, 2BB), Jana Skoog (1-3, 3RBI, R, 3BB), Anderson (2-3, HR, 3BB, 2RBI, 3R, SB), Janelle Hendrickson (1-5, 2B, 2RBI, 2R) and Koll (4BB, 4R, 2SB).

On Thursday, OTC traveled to Parkers Prairie for another double header, losing 17-8 and 20-2.

Again, the Bulldog's fell behind early, but they never gave up.  The Panthers took an early 10-0 lead in the first, and then over the next 5.5 innings were held to only scoring 2-2-2 and 1.  Despite the loss, the Bulldogs out hit the Panthers 11-10.  “Defensively, we allowed way too many runs due to inconsistent pitching and fielding errors,” said Bulldogs Head Coach Heather Akerman.  “We will need to clean up our game in order to be the competitors I know we can be.”  Christianson and Cameron led the offense for the Bulldogs, both going 3 for 4.  Leaders for Parkers Prairie were Hope Koep (2-4, 2B, 4RBI, 2R), Abby Ruckheim (1-4, HR, 2RBI, 2R), Joey McKeown (0-1, 4BB, 4R, 2SB) and Ashley Olson (2-5, 3SB, 3R).

“Game 2 on the chilly Thursday night did not start out how we would have liked,” noted Coach Akerman. “Again, pitching struggles put us behind early in the game.  The Panthers were able to accumulate 12 runs in the first two innings of play while we only put one across the plate.  We were able to sporadically put 7 hits on the board, but the 6 errors and a few timely hard hits by the Panthers sealed the deal.”  Christianson, Kenady Cameron, Emma Dirkman, Kaylee Trosdahl, Esme Larsen, Kaislyn Bunkowski and Grabe all had one hit for the Bulldogs.  The Panthers were led by Koep (3-4, 2RBI, 3R, 2SB), Evy Grinager (2-3, HR, 4RBI, R, SB), Skylar Ashbaugh (2-4, 2B, 2RBI, 2R), Ruckheim (1-2, 2B, 2RBI, R) and McKeown (1-1, 2BB, RBI, 4R, 2SB).

Brooklyn Christianson collected 4 hits in five at bats, as the Bulldogs defeated Pelican Rapids 10-4 on Friday.  Sophie Akerman scored the first two runs of the game as she tripled on a 3-2 count, scoring two runs.  Then Bulldogs were able to score in every inning except for the 7th.  Kenady Cameron earned the victory in the pitcher's circle.  She gave up 4 runs on 8 hits and struck out 3.  The Bulldogs racked up 13 hits in the game and committed only 1 error!  “Today was a much needed win for the Bulldogs,” acknowledged Coach Akerman.  “Looking forward to another busy week as we travel to Sebeka on Monday, host WDC in a double header on Tuesday and end the week traveling to Barnesville on Friday afternoon.”
