Perham Baseball Team Sweeps Double Header from Pelican Rapids

The Perham baseball team won a pair of games from Pelican Rapids on Thursday, recording a 14-4 win in the opener and a 10-0 victory in the nightcap.  The Yellowjackets overcame an early 2-0 deficit in the first game, scoring 13 straight runs to gain the lead.  In game two, Ashton Detloff tossed a complete game one-hitter for Perham, striking out ten batters.

Evan Kovash (5IP, 2H, 2R, 0ER, 1BB, 8K) was the winning pitcher in game one.  He also went 2-for-3 at the plate with a triple, a run batted in and two runs scored.  Other top hitters for the Yellowjackets were Blaiz Schmidt (3-4, 2B, 3B, 2RBI, 3R), Ben Shumansky (2-5, RBI, R) and Detloff (2-3, 2RBI, 3R, 3SB).

Ethan Sjostrom (1-4, 2B, RBI, R) and Will Pesch (1-3, 2B, RBI) drove in runs for the Vikings.  Kaden Holt added a double in four at bats.  Estaban Garza (4.1IP, 7H, 8R, 5ER, 4BB, 1K) took the loss on the mound.

Shumansky (2-3, 2B, HR, 4RBI, 2R), Kovash (2-3, 2B, 2RBI, 3R), Gabe Bye (2-3, 2R, 2SB) and Austin Schmelz (1-2, 2RBI, 2B) led the offensive attack for Perham.  Sjostrom had a double for the only Pelican Rapids safety.
