Pelican Rapids swept a softball double header from Perham on Thursday, winning 8-7 and 11-9.  Perham tied the first game 7-7 with a run in the bottom of the sixth, but the Vikings pushed across the game winner in the top of the seventh.  In game two, Pelican Rapids led 11-5 going to the seventh. Perham put together a rally, however, it fell short.

“We did a good job and drew 11 walks in game one,” reported Vikings Head Coach Derrick Nelson.  “With two outs in the top of the seventh, Sylvia Pesch drew a walk and stole second base.  Pesch scored the go-ahead run on a solid base hit by Kia Nelson.  Perham went out 1-2-3 in the bottom of the seventh to seal the victory.”

Nelson (7IP, 11H, 6K, 0BB) was the winning pitcher.  Hitting leaders were Pesch (1-2, 2R, 3BB), Nelson (1-3, R, 2BB, RBI), Claudia Gurath (1-5, 2RBI) and Ava Simpson (3BB).

Game two leaders were Nelson (2-3, 3R, BB, RBI), Gurath (2-2, 2R, 3BB, 4RBI), Ariana Villagomez (2-3, BB, RBI), Addison Walters (2-4, 3R), Zayla Arrow (1-4, BB, RBI) and Pesch (1-4, 2R, BB).

“Zayla Arrow (7IP, 5H, 6K, 9BB, 4ER) did a very nice job in the circle in the second game,” stated Coach Nelson.  “We had a couple of errors behind her, as she only gave up four earned runs.  It was nice to see the bats come alive with some solid base hits in the second game.”

Pelican Rapids will host Ottertail Central on Friday at 4:30pm.
