The Barnesville boys’ golf team qualified as a team for the Section 8AA tournament after taking third place in the sub-section meet behind Fergus Falls and Hawley.  The Trojans put together two good days of golf to take second in the section tournament, making for some positive momentum going into the 2023 season.

There are some holes to fill in the varsity lineup as 4-time HOL All-Conference golfers Ryan Rustad and Logan Ernst both graduated, along with letter winner Brady Dollison.

“We return two all-conference golfers in juniors Lucas Fuller and Adyen Hauck,” reported Head Coach Matt Askegaard, now in his twelfth season.  “We also return junior Evan Packer who just missing the HOL All-Conference team last year.  One of our biggest boosts will come from the return of senior Tate ‘Big Easy’ Inniger, who missed last season due to having knee surgery.”

Inniger was an HOL All-Conference performer for the Trojans his sophomore year.  Senior Isaac Maneval, junior Ethan Hoppe and sophomore Jack Maesse will also be in the varsity mix.

“We return a nice mix of experienced golfers and will be looking for some guys who have been in the program for a few years to step into an increased varsity role,” added Coach Askegaard.  “We are in the same boat as everyone else and are at the mercy of Mother Nature.  We will do what we can with our indoor practices hitting foam balls ini the gym and getting work on the simulator.”

Askegaard, who will be assisted by Jed Johnson and Jerry Loegering, says, “Roseau and Fergus Falls return a bunch of really good golfers in the section.  I figure Hawley to be tough again in the section and the HOL, as they return their top three golfers.”
