Spartans Drop Double Header to Alexandria

The M State baseball team managed just one run in their double header with Alexandria on Wednesday as they dropped both games, falling 13-1 in the opener and 12-0 in the nightcap.  Both games ended by the ten-run rule after five innings. 

Luke Ruter had a single and Beau Fetting a double for the two Spartan hits in game one.  Fetting drove in the lone run, scoring Ian Staton.  Alexandria was led at the plate by Chuck Hackett (2-4, HR, RBI, 2R), Brady Goebel (2-4, 2B, 2RBI, 2R), Mason Conrad (2-5, 2RBI, 2R, 2BB), Carter Lang (2-3, 2B, R, SB), Levi Lampert (3-5, 2B, RBI, 3R, SB) and Jacob Merrill (3-4, 3RBI).  Lucas Burgum (5IP, 2H, 1ER, 7K, 0BB) improved his season record to 4-0 on the mound.

In game two, Jalen Vorpahl tossed a two-hit shutout, striking out 8 and walking none.  Hitting leaders were Hackett (3-3, 2B, 3RBI, R), Lang (2-3, 3B, RBI, 3R), Lampert (2-2, 3B, RBI, 2R), Merrill (1-3, RBI, R) and Maddox Mortensen (1-1, 3B, R).  The Spartan hits came from Luke Ruter and Logan Pulju.

M State is now 6-11 on the season.  Their scheduled double header with St. Cloud on Saturday has been postponed.
