The Alexandria boys’ tennis team took second place in the Central Lakes Conference a year ago with an 8-2 record, finished as a top four team in Section 8AA and had a 15-11 overall record.  Owen Gilbertson, Cole Haabala, Blake Svee and Ryker Bosek will serve as team captains.

“We have great leadership and experience as we bring back the majority of the top of our singles and doubles lineup from last season,” said Alexandria Head Coach Nick Jansen.  “There are also a number of players that rotated in and out of the lower doubles positions last year.  Our depth and the level of competition we can bring to practice will help us improve over the course of the season.”

Returning starters include senior Ryker Bosek, juniors Cole Haabala, Blake Svee, Owen Gilbertson, Owen Godfrey and Leonard Kompelien, and sophomores Chase Thompson, Niklas Cook and Brett Thomburg.

Seniors Hunter Bollman and Erik Reineke, junior Benjamin Swedberg, and sophomores Lucas Fernholz and Charlie Johnston will also be in the mix.

“Developing a competitive edge in practices than can translate to matches,” said Coach Jansen.  “We have talent and experience on this team, so we need to be more consistent in putting away the teams we know we should beat.  Also, we need to be able to consistently elevate our game against tougher competition and in close, pressure filled matches.”

Jansen says Becker, Bemidji, St. Cloud Tech and Brainerd at the top teams in Section 8AA with the Tigers and Warriors the favorites in the Central Lakes Conference.

David LeVahn and Evan Lattimer will serve as assistant coaches to Jansen.
