The Pelican Rapids softball team finally got outside, not for practice, but for their first game of the spring.  The Vikings had a pair of 3-run innings on the way to a 6-3 victory over Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal.

“Thanks to the hard work of the NCE/UH staff and people of Twin Valley, they had fields read for us to play on,” said Pelican Rapids Head Coach Derrick Nelson.  “The infield of Zayla Arrow (1B), Ava Simpson (2B), Sylvia Pesch (SS), Claudia Gurath (3B) and Zayli Arrow (C), played outstanding defense tonight.  The infielders had 18 putouts at first base with only one error for the contest.”

Zayli Arrow (2-4, 4RBI) had two clutch hits, driving in four runs, and freshman Linea Thomas (1-4) picked up her first varsity hit.  Kia Nelson (2-4, 2R), Gurath (1-4, 2R), Zayla Arrow (4BB, 2R) and Simpson (2BB) also contributed at the plate.

Kia Nelson (7IP, 3ER, 0BB, 1K) went the distance in the circle, earning the win.

The Pelican Rapids game scheduled with Breckenridge on Thursday has been postponed until May 16.
