The Barnesville softball team made some great strides during the 2022 season as they finished with a 12-10 overall record, a 7-5 Heart O’ Lakes Conference mark, and advanced to the third round of the Section 8AA playoffs for the first time in five years.  Six players, Trinity Gregg (Playing at Jamestown), Kiana Amundson, Lauren Halverson, Lexi Bolgrean, Anna Stanford and Katie Newell were lost to graduation off that successful team.

Returning letter winners include seniors Jaida Bontjes (1B, Captain), Kailey Olson (P/OF, Captain), Lily Trowbridge (1B/DP, Captain), Keelin Fitzpatrick (OF) and Kim Olson (1B), juniors Amelia Newell (2B) and Paige Braton (P/UT), sophomore Macie Pauna (SS) and freshman Alexa Gregg (3B).

Key newcomers are junior Elisabeth Mulcahy (3B), sophomores Brooklyn Cota (OF), Lexi Hoeft (OF/UT) and Lydia Braton (C) and freshman Lexi Bontjes (OF/UT).

“This year’s team has a lot of new faces in new places,” commented Barnesville Head Coach Aaron Schindler.  “They are a bunch of hard workers and have done a great job meshing together.  Offensively, we will look to be aggressive on the basepaths and put pressure on opposing defenses.  Defensively, we are going to have to trust each other and limit our errors.  I’m very excited to see what they can do, as this is a unique blend of players that bought into our WE, not me, mentality.”

Schindler will be assisted by Nikki Gregg, Nycole Mouritsen and Lexi Bolgrean.  He sees DGF and Breckenridge as the teams to beat in the HOL, with Thief River Falls joining the Rebels and Cowgirls as favorites in Section 8AA.
