Alexandria Girls Track and Field (Season Preview)

The Alexandria Girls’ Track and Field Team is coming off a championship season in 2022, claiming the Central Lakes Conference, Section 8AA and Section 8AAA True Team titles.  They also placed sixth in the MSHSL AA State Track and Field Meet.  The lady Cards had state champs in the 4x800 meter relay and 1600 meter run.

Elena Fuglestad (Sprints/Jumps, Academic All-State), Giselle Jahner (Distance, 4x800 relay state champ, Academic All-State), Izzy Kent (Pole Vault, All-State), Brynn Kosters (Distance, Academic All-State) and Sophia Vinje (Throws, Section 8AA Record Holder Discus) will serve as team captains.

Alexandria lost twelve individuals to graduation.  Five of them are currently competing in college, Aleah Miller (NDSU), Emma Ecker (SDSU), Hailie Kent (La Crosse), Bria Luepke (Hamline) and Kiara Sowada (Carthage College).

“Our strength is our culture,” stated Head Coach Meghan Orgeman.  “We work hard, support each other, and are able to develop our athletes exceptionally well throughout the season.  We also are a very well-rounded team that has strong athletes and experienced coaches in every event group.  We will miss the seniors who graduated last season with both their talent and their leadership!  This year’s seniors are leading the way to carry on their tradition.”

Joining the captains as returning letter winners are Ella Steussy (Jumps, Academic All-State), Kaia Emter (Sprints, Jumps, Academic All-State), Addison Fettig (Sprints, Pole Vaults, Academic All-State), Elle Heydt (Sprints, Jumps, Academic All-State), Sophia Korynta (Hurdles, Jumps, Academic All-State), Elise Magaard (Throws, Academic All-State), Jaelyn Miller (Distance, Jumps, All-State 4x800, 800, State Champ, Class AA Record), Greta Oldenkamp (Distance, Jumps, Academic All-State), Marisa Rousu (Hurdles, Jumps, Academic All-State), Amaria Sowada (Throws, All-State Discus), Alison Krasky (Sprints, Jumps, All-State Long Jump, Academic All-State), Lydia Oldenkamp (Hurdles, Throws), Kaija Schneider (Sprints, Jumps) and Kasey Soderholm (Distance, All-State, State Champion, Class AA Record Holder 4x800 relay).

Orgeman will be assisted by Mike Empting (Head Boys Coach), Nikki Paradis (Distance), Travis Hochhalter (Distance), Jerry Amundson (Hurdles), Ty Granning (Throws) and Rey Fuglestad (Pole Vault).

Brainer, Rocori and Willmar are listed by Coach Orgeman as the main challengers to the Cardinals in Section 8AA and the Central Lakes Conference.
