Mike Schaub (Sprints, Relays) begins his 17th season as head coach of the Barnesville lady Trojans Track and Field team, coming off a 2022 season that saw him earn Section 6A Girls Coach of the Year honors.  He will be assisted by Jack Schaub (Assistant Girls Coach, Long Jump, Triple Jump), Maizey Berg (Head Boys Coach, Shot Put, Discus), Nick Paur, Assistant Boys Coach, Shot Put, Discus), Shawn Paschke (Volunteer Coach, Pole Vault), McKinzie Solum (Volunteer Coach, Hurdles), Kailee Strand (Volunteer Coach, Jumps), Carolin Rotz (Volunteer Coach, Distance, High Jump) and Joe Westbrock (Volunteer Coach, Hurdles, Sprints).

The Trojans will need to replace graduates Emily Bredman (Discus, Shot Put), Mathea Joblonsky (Hurdles, Relays), Sydney Rustad (Sprints, Jumps, Relays) and Emily Schoenecker (Sprints, Jumps, Relays).

“In 2022, we finished second as a team in most of our regular season meets,” reported Coach Schaub.  “We were second out of 21 teams at the Section 6A True Team Track and Field meet, were the Sub-Section 21 champs and placed fifth at the Section 6A meet.  Seven girls advanced to the Minnesota State High School League Track and Field Meet.  It was a very successful year, having improvements occur throughout the season with all of the girls accelerating to their full potential.  They all exhibited good work ethic with solid performances.”

Girls advancing to the state meet included Lindsey Rotz (800, 1600), and 4x100 meter relay team members Emily Smith, Sydney Rustad, Anika Cossette, Addy Barnes, Jayla Amundson and Emma Rietz.

Leading the lady Trojans in 2023 will be seniors Mya Anderson (Distance, Relays), Rumely Biewer (Discus, Shot Put), Emma Rietz (Sprints, Relays), Emily Smith (Sprints, Jumps, Relays) and Emily Riddle (Hurdles, Jumps), and juniors Kenadee Gray (Pole Vauld, Relays), Hadley Pearson (Distance, Jumps, Relays), Olivia Power (Hurdles, Jumps, Relays), Lindsey Rotz (Distance, Relays), Mallory Rasmussen (Discus, Shot Put) and Natale Froslie (Discus, Shot Put).

Sophomores on the team include Jayden Camperud (Discus, Shot Put), Ella Cossette (Sprints, Relays), Ava Follingstad (Jumps, Sprints, Relays), Sophie Frederick (Distance, Relays), Logan Schlauderaff (Distance, Relays), Jasmine Sistad (Sprints, Shot Put, Discus), Nila Church (Hurdles, Distance) and Morgan Baer (Shot Put, Discus), and freshmen on the roster are Laila Berg (Relays, Jumps), Anika Cossette (Sprints, Relays), Shayna Erickson (Shot Put, Discus), Ashley Maneval (Pole Vault, Jumps, Hurdles), Ava Ness (Sprints, Relays), Camryn Schafer (Hurdles, Relays) and Allison Smith (Pole Vault, Jumps, Relays).

Rounding out the roster are eighth-graders Jayla Amundson, Addyson Barnes, Rylee Bauer, Isabella Follingstad, Addyson Rasmussen, Piper Thompson and Morgan Schlauderaff, along with seventh-graders Coleman Biewer, Anneliese Brown, Brynna Fradet, Bridgit Hendrickson, Kyra Hovde, Ava Huesman, Autumn Loouwagie, Madison Nord, Isabella Orr, Sophia Ramsey, and Molly Rotz.

Mya Askegard, Rumely Biewer, Emma Rietz and Emily Smith will serve as team captains.

“Returning letter winners are among the athletes to watch this year, in addition to a talented group of seventh and eighth-graders,” said Coach Schaub.  “Lindsey Rotz should have another good year as she advanced to the MSHSL State Meet in 2022 in the 800 and 1600 meter runs.  Emily Smith, Anika Cossette, Addy Barnes and Morgan Schlauderaff are also girls to watch this year in the sprints and relays.  Ashley Maneval should have another good season in the pole vault, as well as Rumely Biewer in the shot put and discus.  I had several girls attend camps at Concordia and NDSU to better their skills for competition.  I look for our team to be strong in all areas, throwing, jumping, distance and sprinting.  We have a lot of depth and a team with a good work ethic, great dedication and a lot of talent.  We also have a lot of ambitious seventh and eighth-graders looking to push the upperclassmen to compete to their fullest potential.”

Schaub picks Perham win the Win the Heart O’ Lakes Conference title and the section 6A championship, with the lady Trojans being his choice to win the True Team Section 6A title and Sub-Section 21.
