Brian Perleberg enters his 16th year as head coach of the Brandon-Evansville baseball team.  The Chargers are coming off a 14-7 overall record and a 7-3 Little Eight Conference mark.  They lost Tyler Bitzan, Jayden Hoidahl, Hunter Koep, Brayden Englund and Titus Fuller to graduation, however, six returning starters are back to form a solid nucleus.

Seniors Kian Gackle (OF/P), Brady Perleberg (SS/P) and Dezmond White (3B/SS/P), and juniors Riley Perleberg (SS/C/2B), Lucas Fuller (OF/P) and Carter White (OF/P) are the returning starters.

“The senior leadership on this team is fantastic, and we will lean on them to guide and groom our sophomores and freshmen through the rigors of a condensed varsity season,” noted Coach Perleberg.  “If we can stay mentally strong and carry a strong work ethic throughout the season, this team will have a memorable year.”

Junior Hunter Grothen, sophomore Dustin Gillespie, freshmen Bryce Froemming, Landon Sullivan, Kaden Englund and Colton Breitkreutz, and eighth-grader Jack Kelly, are all expected to be in the varsity mix in 2023.

“This year’s team will return six starters who gained valuable experience last season,” said Coach Perleberg.  “The pitching staff will be led by seniors Dezmond White (31IP), Brady Perleberg (37IP), and juniors Carter White and Riley Perleberg.  Several others will be competing for time on the mound, including Kian Gackle, Lucas Fuller and Hunter Grothen.  Offensively, the Chargers will be looking for several new faces to step forward to replace some of the voids lost to graduation.  With the late start to the season and not being able to get outside, we anticipate some early season mistakes, but we will put a lot of effort preparing to become stronger defensively as the season progresses.”

Perleberg sees Border West as the top team in the LEC, with KMS, New York Mills, Browerville and Parkers Prairie joining the Bucs as Section 6A favorites.

Jeff Martinson (JV), James Huisman (Assistant), Chad Knapp (Jr. High) and Tom Gasser (Jr. High) will assist Perleberg.
