The Fergus Falls girls’ golf team will look to continue their impressive run as they hit the links for the 2023 season.  Last year, the Otters took third in the Central Lakes Conference as a team, won the Section 8AA title for a second consecutive year and followed up a third place finish in the State Meet in 2021 with a second place finish in 2022.  The Otters lost three members off that team, with Ellia Soydara and Ella Mayer graduating, and Lexi Metcalf opting for track and field this spring.

Annika Jyrkas and Annie Mayer will serve as captains, while Olivia Jurgens, Hanna Bye and Ellie Bergren are also key returning players.  Ava Thompson, Hannah Johnson, Katie Bergren and Shay Katzenmeyer will all be in the varsity mix.

“We have a few goals and expectations for this group of girls,” said Head Coach Ben Jurgens.  “We want our top three players to be patient and continue to improve throughout the season.  We want to find three more players to fill out the varsity roster and work with them to improve their skills and scores.  We want to be playing our best golf in late May through June, and we want to teach and excite our girls that are new to the team so they want to spend time at the golf course in the summer and improve their skills.”

Jurgens, who will be assisted by Amber Hovland, Elizabeth Abrahams and Nikki Kaasa, says Alexandria and Brainerd are the top teams in the Central Lakes Conference.  As for Section 8AA, “Park Rapids has a very nice team, led by two very good golfers,” said Jurgens.  “Perham is always tough and Hawley has a nice team.”
