The West Central Area boys’ golf team won the Quad County Conference championship and placed third in the West Central Conference last spring.  The Knights should be right in the thick of both races once again as they return every member of that highly successful team.

“We return our entire team from last year and most of them have played on back-to-back conference champions the past two years and were on the state qualifying team in 2021,” reported Head Coach Kraig Hunter.  “They play all summer, and they work on their games even throughout the winter.  They are dedicated, obviously, and they are a competitive bunch that’s looking to have a good year.”

Four players with multiple All-Conference honors lead the list of returners, led by 3-time All-Conference performer Mitch Dewey, a junior.  Senior Peyton Hanson, freshman Marshall Dewey and sophomore Sam Hanson are all 2-time All-Conference golfers.  Senior Brett Amundson rounds out the top five.  Senior Cole Anderson and junior Cam Anderson will be in the mix for the varsity starting lineup throughout the season.  Mitch Dewey, Peyton Hanson and Brett Amundson will serve as captains.

“Mitch has been our low scorer the past few years and Brett was close to making All-Conference last year and has also become a very good player over the past year,” added Hunter.  “We are excited to see what he can do this year.  Cole and Cam both have a lot of potential.  Our team will have great teach chemistry.”

The Knights moved up to Class AA in 2022 and will be competing in Section 3AA where Marshall, New London-Spicer and Minnewaska Area were all powerhouses last year.  They will also be a part of two conferences, the West Central Conference and the Quad County Conference.

Ben Johnson will serve as junior high coach.
