The Hawley girls’ softball team is coming off a 16-6 season and runner-up finish in Section 8AA last spring.  The Nuggets lost a lot of experienced varsity players to graduation, including Elle Hastings, who I now playing college softball at Bemidji State University, Paige Blakeway, Kaylie Crabtree, Kylie Crabtree, Grace Fleming, Makenzie Halvorson and Madi Walker.

“We will be a very young and inexperienced group at the varsity level,” commented third-year Head Coach Jackson Lyngaas.  “We do return players that have played a lot of softball and are excited for their turn on the varsity field.  Our returning pitchers and catchers saw a lot of innings together last year and will be a key part to our success.  Having a solid defense behind our pitcher will be key to keeping games low scoring.  We’ve had a nice run of power hitters and players that have played a lot of varsity softball.  There will definitely be a new look and style to how we approach offense this season.  We will mix in a lot of different players in different positions throughout the spring to find our best lineup for playoffs.”

Returning letter winners include sophomores Alex Guderjahn (OF), Ella Hockett (UT) and Faith Sannes (UT), and freshmen Brooke Geffre (SS), Eagan Hastings (P), Hannah Stotts (3B) and Emily Vettern (C).  Freshmen Sella Fleming (UT), Mallory Halvorson (UT), Annaka Johnson (UT), Addi Sanvik (UT) and McKenna Walker (UT).

Alyson Brenna, Drew Thompson, Clair Anderson and Brittany Thompson will assist Coach Lyngaas.

Lyngaas say DGF and Breckenridge will be favorites in the Heart O’ Lakes Conference, with Thief River Falls and Fergus Falls joining them as the top contenders in 8AA.
