Ron Drechsel and Tyler Drechsel are back for their 18th season coaching the Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton softball team.  The Rebels were 22-6 on their way to a fourth place finish in the AA State Tournament a year ago, winning the Heart O’ Lakes Conference title with an 11-1 mark.  The Rebels lost four players to graduation, including Mallory Leitner who is playing at Concordia College in Moorhead, Evelyn Moe, Jorden Nelson and Jaeda Pederson.

Returning letter winners include seniors Skylar Spessard (C), Makayla Winter (OF) and Kaleigh Peterson (OF), sophomores Makayla Bjelland (SS) and Natalie Linman (P), and freshmen Ellie Boyd (1B), Greta DeVries (IF/OF), Lexi Fromkie (OF) and Katie Kittelson (OF).  They are also expecting junior Lola Garrett (1B), freshman Karlie Wagner (C), and eighth –graders Autumn Leach (P) and May Myklebust (IF) to step into varsity roles.

“Should be an exciting season with high expectations,” said the Coaches.  “We return experience with 7 starters back from last year’s team.  We must fill key positions at pitcher and shortstop.  With a young, but experienced group, the key for our success will be to find chemistry on defense.  They are a good contact hitting group, so we should be able to put pressure on other teams.  Our pitching duties will be a combined effort with Makayla Bjelland, Autumn Leach and Natalie Linman.  We expect to be competitive again in a very difficult conference and section.”

Thief River Falls is their pick to be the main competition in Section 8AA, with Breckenridge/Wahpeton the top contender in the HOL.
