Jim Jacobson has been involved as Head Coach in the Frazee Track and Field program for 17 years.  The 2023 season is his eleventh as Girls’ Head Coach, but it will be his first season coaching both the girls’ and boys’ team in the first year.  He will be assisted by Russ Hackel, Jim Rader, Jeff Johannsen, Todd Larson and Megan Galligan.

Returning varsity athletes for the Frazee girls’ include seniors Bailey Larsen (State qualifier in 4x200, High Jump), Autumn Hiemenz, Kaidence Mayfield, Madison Olson and Olivia Petron, juniors Elsie Ratz (4x400), Hailey Selly (4x400, State qualifier 4x200) and Kodi Schermerhorn, sophomore Lainey Jacobson, freshmen, Brynn Larson (4x400, State qualifier 4x200, High Jump) and Jayden Sonnenberg (4x400, State Qualifier 4x200), and eighth-graders Aubree Bristlin, Bristol Larsen, and Lauryn Schmid.

“We have a big core back from last season, including all of our school record 4x400 and most of our 4x200 team,” said Jacobson.  “We have some great leadership on our girls’ team and a lot of talent.  We are short some upperclassmen in our distance races, but we have some youth we are excited about.  Our girls are excited for the season and we are ready for the snow to melt.”

Returning for the boys’ are senior Hunter Lyman, juniors Brady Borah, Brady Crabtree and Alex Helmers, sophomore Gavin Simon, and freshman Tyden Schafter and Jonah Sharp.

“Boys are short on numbers this year and we graduated our state qualifiers from last year,” added Coach Jacobson.  “We are fairly young, but our guys have been working hard so far this season.  Our boys are looking to build on the success from last year as we figure out who is going to fill which roles.”

Jacobson says Barnesville, Pelican Rapids and Perham at the top teams in the HOL, with Osakis being added to mix as Section 6A favorites.
