Twelfth year Head Coach Trevor Hone of the Rothsay Track and Field teams saw members of his squad have some success at the Section level a year ago, with several of them returning for the 2023 season.  Chelsea Stowe, who qualified for sections in the discus, and Chris Carrillo and Sam Danielson, who were members of the 4x100 relay team which also made it to the section meet, were all lost to graduation.

Freshman Karson Jensen (200, long jump, 4x100 relay), senior Logan Blumer (1600), and junior Matthew Danielson (110 Hurdles, 300 Hurdles, 4x100 relay) are the Section qualifiers who return this season.  Other returning varsity letter winners on the boys’ side are senior Wylie Brenden (Discus, Shot Put, Triple Jump), juniors Mark Carrillo (Shot Put, Discus), Ethan Olson (200, 400, 800) and Zachary Christ (Shot Put, Discus), sophomores Josh Honer (Shot Put, Discus) and Colton Harrom (Shot Put, Discus), and eighth-grader Wyatt Irish (Shot Put, Discus).

Key newcomers for the boys’ include junior Travis Shirley (200, 400, 800), sophomore Landon Messerschmidt (100, 200, 4x100, Long Jump), and eighth-graders Wesley Phillips (100, 200, Long Jump, Triple Jump) and Carter Davenport (100, 200, Long Jump, Discus).

Returning for the girls’ are sophomores Addison Fetterer (100, 200, 4x100, Long Jump), Brooklyn Weiers (800, 1600), AnnaBella Poitra (Shot Put, Discus) and Siri Klossner (Shot Put, Discus), freshman Mia Rivers (100, 200, 4x100, Long Jump) and eighth-grader Emma Klossner (Shot Put, Discus).

New to the girls’ varsity squad this season are sophomore Hannah Christenson (100, 200, Long Jump, 4 x 100) and eighth-grader Vanessa Sullivan (100, 200, Long Jump, 4x100).

“We lost a couple of key members of the team after last season,” acknowledged Coach Hone.  “The kids we have are exciting and have a lot of potential to do well.  We are returning a number of 2022 Section competitors and we have a couple of new recruits that have a lot of promise.  Our group may be small, but they are dedicated and get after it at practice.  Their hard work will pay off for us this year.  In addition to having several athletes aimed at Sections and possibly State, we have a lot of young hard working kids who should set Personal Bests this season and have themselves setup in strong positions to do well in the future.”

Jenny Miller will serve as Hone’s assistant.
