The Fergus Falls boys’ track and field team lost many key seniors from their team that claimed the Section 8AA True Team championship last season, however, fourth year Head Coach Derek Meyer feels good about the returning members who experienced that success.  The Otters lost Conrad Lobb (Running at Faith Baptist College in Ankeny, IA), Jordan Lee (State Runner-up Pole Vault), Owen Babolian, Isaac Job, Landon Thacker, Owen Spain and Luke Newman (State High Jump qualifier) to graduation.

“The team still remains strong with many top competitors across each discipline of the sport,” reported Coach Meyer.  “We will look for the depth of our roster to fill in the voids that left us with graduation.  It is always exciting to see what the crop of freshmen brings.”

Veteran throwers Alex Jensen (SR, CAPT) and Layten Drouillard (JR) return, along with junior Shane Zierden (Sprinter/Jumper), and sophomores Jaden Miller (Distance) and Henry Bethel (Jumper/Sprinter).  Jensen placed third in the shot put at the State Class AA Meet last spring and competed in the state discus event, along with Drouillard.  Zierden participated in the State Triple Jump competition.

Key newcomers to the varsity will be freshmen Micah Mouser (Distance), Reece Hansen (Mid-Distance/Jumps) and Riley Waasdorp (Sprints/Jumps).

Meyer will be assisted by Niki Welde, Denny Hystead, Ike Carlson, Shawn Papon, Angie Leitch, Kyle Owings and Jon Pontius.

Meyer sees Alexandria as the top team in Section 8AA and in the Central Lakes Conference, with Brainerd also being a CLC contender.
