After a low scoring first half that saw Wadena-Deer Creek leading Thief River Falls 16-13 at the break, the Wolverines put 35 second half points on the board and the Prowler had 31 as WDC posted a 51-44 victory to advance to the Section 8AA championship game against top-seeded Perham on Friday night in Detroit Lakes.

Madison Carsten made 10-of-11 free throws in the game and finished with a game high 14 points to lead Wadena-Deer Creek.  Payton Gravelle had 13 points and Montana Carsten had 1 points, making 4 3’s in the contest.  Addyson Gravelle chipped in with 9 points.

“What a game tonight,” said Wadena-Deer Creek Head Coach Jordan Cresap. “Another battle that featured some adversity, especially in the second half being down 7. Like we’ve done all year though, this group didn’t stop believing, and kept finding ways to get back into the game. Montana Carsten hit some huge threes down the stretch, and Payton Gravelle had a big time offensive rebound, put back/free throw to go up 4. Then some high pressure free throws from various players sealed the deal. Loved our effort defensively.”

Thief River Falls was led by Avah Waldal and Kendal Rantanen with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
