Otter Girls Fall 4-3 to Mankato East in Class A Consolation Championship Game

Mankato East edged Fergus Falls 4-3 on Saturday morning at the Tria Rink in St. Paul to claim the Class A Girls Consolation championship at the State Hockey Tournament.  Mckenzie Keller completed her hat trick at 8:07 of the third period to send the Cougars to the victory.

Keller got things started at 14:35 of the opening period with an unassisted goal, however, Fergus Falls responded 27 seconds later when Skye Norgren scored from Tyra Skjeret.  The first period ended with a 1-1 tie on the board.

Keller’s second unassisted goal came at 7:33 of the second period and just 13 seconds later Maddison Brimhall scored to tie the game at 2-2.  Maddie Hulter and Hannah Johnson assisted on the goal.  The Otters got a power play goal Hulter at 14:55 of the period as they took the lead at 3-2.

A power play goal by Trinity Jackson, assisted by Jessica Eykyn brought the Cougars even at 4:41 of the third period, setting the stage for Kellers’ game winner.  Eykyn and Emmy Schulz assisted on the final goal.

Mankato East put 28 shots on goalie Ana Jyrkas and the Otters managed 20 shots on goal.  Annaliese Radar stopped 17 of the Fergus Falls shots.

Fergus Falls ends the season with a record of 23-6-1.
