It took 105 minutes and 50 seconds for a puck to go in the net on Wednesday night as Fergus Falls and South St. Paul played into the second overtime before their Class A State Quarterfinal contest was decided.  Sarah Wincentsen’s unassisted goal at 10:10 of the second overtime period propelled the Packers to a 1-0 win over the Otters and a spot opposite top-seeded Warroad in the championship semifinals on Friday afternoon.

Fergus Fall senior forward Tyra Skjeret summed it up this way, “We got pushed off the puck a bit, they came out a little more aggressive than we thought.  We had our opportunities tonight and we just weren’t lucky.”

Fergus Falls junior goaltender Ana Jyrkas was incredible in the net, stopping 41 of the 42 shots she faced in the game, including 12 of the 13 she saw in the extra periods.  “I was having the time of my life, that is why you play,” said Jyrkas. “I was excited and smiling.”

“Wasn’t it phenomenal to watch? It was so fun to watch, she was on her game,” said Head Coach Tim Lill of the Otters.  “We haven’t given up that many shots in a game all year.  It was great to see how we would perform when tested.  What she did on all the odd man rushes was incredible.”

The Otters had 19 shots on goal and Delaney Norman, a state semifinalist for Goalie of the Year in Minnesota High School Hockey, stopped every one of them.  The Otters were 0-for-4 on the power play.

Fergus Falls will meet Albert Lea in a consolation semifinal contest at noon on Thursday at the Tria Arena.  Albert Lea lost to Warroad, 15-1 in their quarterfinal game.
