Willmar went on a 9-0 run to start the second half, overcoming a 28-24 halftime deficit and going on to defeat the Fergus Falls girls’ basketball team 64-56 on Thursday night. It was the fifth straight win for the Cardinals and the Otters have now lost five of their last six games.
Willmar made 5 of their 6 3-point field goals in the second half and connected on 18-of-26 free throws in the game. The Cardinals placed four players in double figures, led by 15 points from Kenadee Salonek. Allie Rosendahl scored 13, Telilie Lange had a dozen and Brielle Ogdahl added 11.
Fergus Falls played an excellent first half, committing only 3 turnovers. The second half was a different story as the Otters ended up with 14 turnovers on the night. The Otters made eight 3’s, 3 of them by Brynn Sternberg, and finished 16-for-23 from the free throw line. Cyntreya Lockett had 19 points, 9 rebounds and 3 blocked shots to lead the Otters. Hattie Fullhart came off the bench to score 12 points. Sternberg finished with 9 points and Karley Braeger contributed 8.
Fergus Falls (6-16, 3-9 CLC) will host Perham on Saturday night.
