The Breckenridge Cowgirls overcame a 23-15 halftime deficit to defeat the Pelican Rapids Vikings by the score of 43-40 on Thursday night. The Cowgirls were behind 32-23 with 11 minutes remaining in the game but came on strong, taking the lead for the first time at 41-40 with 1:30 to go.
Parker Yaggie had a team high 17 points to lead Breckenridge, and Sydni Roberts hit a pair of 3’s and scored 10 points. Emily Gowin excelled on defense for the Cowgirls throughout the night.
Ellie Welch led Pelican Rapids with 17 points and Morgan Korf had a double double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. She also led the team with 3 assists. Anna Roisum had 9 points and 9 rebounds, and Hazel Haugrud finished with 4 steals and 3 assists.
Pelican Rapids (18-6, 8-4 HOL) will host Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal on Tuesday and Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley on Friday.
Breckenridge (15-7, 7-5 HOL) will host Hillcrest on Tuesday and play at Underwood on Thursday and Crookson on Friday.
