The Barnesville boys’ basketball team hosted the Titans from Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal on Thursday night. The Trojans led 45-33 at the half and won the game 78-52, hitting 51% (34-66) of their field goal attempts and controlling the rebounding game, 50-18.

“They have some good shooters,” said Barnesville Head Coach Matt Askegaard. “I was impressed with their catching and shooting ability. We did a pretty good job of contesting, but they knocked some shots down. We did a good job of getting on the high side and forcing baseline, putting them into some tough spots, but they were able to pass out of it. We didn't flatten out when we needed or scramble out of the rotation. We did a much better job in the second half of doing that.”

Tate Inniger once again led the Trojans, scoring 26 points on 11-of-17 shooting, and completing his double double by securing 16 rebounds, 7 of them on the offensive boards.  Carson Hagen added 17 points and 5 rebounds, and Gannon Bolgrean finished with 8 points and 11 boards.  Zach Bredman had a team high 5 assists and Inniger led with 3 steals.

“Offensively we got out in transition which we need to continue to do even after a made basket,” noted Coach Askegaard. “We need to utilize our speed and passing ability while the defense is not set and in position. At times we get a little too cute and try to make a great pass rather than make 3-4 passes that will get the same result. In the half court we were fairly patient as we saw zone the entire night. We moved the ball well and had some really good looks inside to Tate and Isaac and they were able to finish. We caught and shot it in rhythm, we hit shots from the outside. Carson did a nice job getting us going.”

The Trojans are 4-6 in the Heart O’ Lakes Conference, 14-7 overall and head to New York Mills Friday night.
