The Battle Lake girls’ basketball team hosted a non-conference opponent, Sebeka, on Monday night.  The Battlers trailed 19-18 at halftime, but put together a solid second half to close out the night with a 51-44 home court victory over the Trojans.

“Both teams struggled to score early on,” acknowledged Battle Lake Head Coach David Marso.  “In the second half we were able to extend a small lead, and with some solid free throw shooting to close, we were able to secure the win.”

The lady Battlers were led in scoring by their two 9th graders, Kenady Cameron and Sophie Akerman, who scored 18 and 16 points, respectively.  Both players finished with double-doubles, as Akerman pulled down 21 rebounds and Cameron had 16.

The win was the second in a row and the third of the season for Battle Lake.  They will travel to Graceville on Tuesday to face CGB and to Fergus Falls on Thursday for a Little Eight Conference contest against Hillcrest.

Sebeka (5-15) will host Pillager on Tuesday and travel to face Wadena-Deer Creek on Friday.
