Viking Girls Win Section 8AA Battle with Crookston

Pelican Rapids hosted Section 8AA rival Crookston in a girls’ basketball contest on Monday night with the Vikings posting a 61-54 victory over the Pirates. 

With the game tied at 20-20, Pelican Rapids went on an 8 point run to take a 28-20 advantage with four minutes left in the first half.  Crookston finished the half on a 10-3 run to close the gap to one point at 31-30 at halftime.  The Vikings led 33-32 early in the second half but went on an 8-1 run to open up a 41-33 lead, which they build to a 12 point margin with ten minutes remaining in the game. The Pirates cut into the Vikings lead, but Pelican Rapids was able to withstand their threat and get the win.

Morgan Korf and Ellie Welch were the leaders for the Vikings with 19 and 16 points, respectively.  Anna Roisum finished with 13.  Korf completed a double double by snaring 11 rebounds and also led the team with 6 assists.  Welch grabbed 5 rebounds and dished out 4 assists, and Kelsey Isaman had 6 boards for the Vikings.

Abby Borowicz led all scorers with 25 points and Halle Winjum added 15 for Crookston.

Pelican Rapids (18-5, 8-3 HOL) will host Breckenridge on Thursday.
