The Barnesville boys’ basketball team made 53% (31-58) of their field goal attempts and survived 22 turnovers to record a 76-46 Heart O’ Lakes Conference win over the Frazee Hornets in a game played Saturday at Concordia College in Moorhead.

“Hosted Frazee at Concordia tonight with a later evening start as the girls’ varsity played and had a nice win over the Frazee Lady Hornets,” commented Barnesville Head Coach Matt Askegaard.  “Anyways...not a typical 'good win' tonight. It just felt awkward. We were efficient and clean offensively. We shot a crazy percentage in the first half and had over 40 points at the half, but we had 15 turnovers at the break. It was just one of those games where they (Frazee) got us going too fast in the full and half court and we weren't disciplined enough to just slow down.”

The Trojans were led by 13 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals from Gannon Bolgrean, and 10 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists and 7 steals from Zach BredmanOwen Riddle was also in double digits with 10 points and Tate Inniger secured 11 rebounds to go along with 9 points.  Wyatt Suter contributed 9 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals, while Carson Hagen and Isaac Maneval chipped in with 8 points apiece.

Frazee shot just 36% (18-50) and the Trojans held a 38-25 advantage on the boards.

“Defensively, we were OK,” said Askegaard. “We gave up a few 3s. After half I just wanted them to be better at talking on that end of the floor. We did do a better job in the second half, but it still needs to be an all the time thing instead of not.”

The Trojans are now 4-5 in the conference and 12-6 overall. They have a big game Tuesday at Hawley. After that they will host Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal for Parent's Night on Thursday and then head to New York Mills on Friday.

No Frazee stats were reported.  The Hornets will play at Park Christian School in Moorhead on Tuesday and at Breckenridge on Friday.
