The Breckenridge-Wahpeton Blades scored three second period goals to take a 5-2 lead and went on to defeat Northern Lakes by the score of 6-3 in the Section 6A girls’ hockey quarterfinals on Thursday night in Pequot Lakes.  The win advances the Blades into a semifinal matchup in Fergus Falls next Tuesday night against the top-seeded Otters.

Holly Ovsak’s unassisted goal at 4:50 of the first period put the Blades on the scoreboard first, but Northern Lakes tied the game at 11:17 when Ava Merta scored from Rose Aldridge and Isabella LeeAlison Hoerer then picked up an assist on Reagan Wohlers’ goal at 16:06, giving Breck-Wahp a 2-1 lead after the first period.

Ovsak’s second unassisted tally of the night at 2:20 of the second period was followed by a goal by Hoerer, assisted by Ashlyn Wohlers at 3:40 and a goal by Kennedy Schuler at 7:49, assisted by Reagan Wohlers.  Those three consecutive goals gave the Blades a 5-1 advantage.  Northern Lakes cut the lead to 5-2 at 13:35 when Jenna Stoerzinger notched a power play goal from Corah Meschke.

Northern Lakes drew to within two goals when Natalie Stueven scored from Stoerzinger at 10:41 of the third period, however, Breck-Wahp sealed the deal with an empty net goal by Reagan Wohlers at 16:02, assisted by Schuler.

The Blades had 33 shots on goal and Northern Lakes finished with 26.  Breck-Wahp goalie Kolle Schuler stopped 23 of the shots she faced.
