The M State Men's Basketball team went on a 21 point run in the first half, taking a 48-31 halftime lead and went on to post a 96-63 win over Minnesota West on Wednesday night in Fergus Falls. The Spartans scored 32 points off 22 turnovers by the Blue Jays.
M State shot 48% (41-85) from the field and won the rebounding battle 53-39. Minnesota West shots 36% (23-64) on the night.
Leaders for M State were Foday Sheriff (19 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists), Yonis Mohamud (14 points, 3 steals), Mikele Kambalo (10 points, 5 rebounds), Noel Kabanga (10 points, 6 rebounds) and Akok Aguer (9 points, 11 rebounds, 4 steals). Brett Engelmeyer dished out 4 assists and scored 9 points.
Carter Drent (19 points, 8 rebounds), Steve Ndumbe (16 points, 4 assists, 6 rebounds, 3 steals) and Sam Daho (10 points) were the leaders for Minnesota West.
M State is now 13-10 overall and 5-4 in the MCAC Southern Division. The Spartans are battling for a post season berth with six teams in the hunt for four spots and 5 of the 6 within one game of each other. M State will host Rochester in their final home game of the season at 3:00pm Saturday.
