Shorthanded Lady Spartans Struggle to Get Offense Going in Loss to 10th Ranked Riverland

The M State lady Spartans traveled to Austin on Saturday to face Riverland Community College, ranked tenth in the nation, in a MCAC Southern Division contest.  The lady Spartans went 0-for-13 from 3-point range and shot just 37% (18-49) from the field as they suffered an 83-42 loss to the Blue Devils.  Riverland hit 56% (34-61) of their field goal attempts.

Lindsey Kurz scored a team high 17 points to lead M State and Emily Dehler (12 points, 11 rebounds) recorded a double-double.

The Spartans were playing without two injured starters, point guard Itzel Salazar, and defensive specialist Ashley Dreger.

Four Riverland players were in double digits, led by 20 points from Reana Schmitt and 15 from Camryn McQueryCayli Miles and Kenai Holien each contributed 10 points and Laura Granada chipped in with 9.  Savannah Longhoma had a team high 7 assists.  McQuery and Schmitt led the team on the boards with 8 and 7 rebounds, respectively.

The lady Spartans (10-13, 2-8 MCAC South) will host Minnesota West on Wednesday at 5:30pm.
