DGF built a 38-22 halftime lead and went on to defeat the Barnesville Trojans 68-57 in a Heart O’ Lakes Conference boys’ basketball game on Friday night.  The Rebels shot 42% (23-54) from the field and won a tightly contested rebounding battle, 42-38.

“Had a tough one tonight in Glyndon,” said Barnesville Head Coach Matt Askegaard. “Lost 68-57, but really battled. At one point I know we were down 16 in the first half. We had a few bounces not go our way and we got a little frustrated. Defensively we gave up the 3 too much as we just weren't getting to shooters. We were so focused on stopping the drive that we just couldn't get to shooters.  Offensively, DGF sat in a zone for the majority of the first half and we didn't move the ball effectively. However, in the second half we did and actually got quite a few layups that forced them out of their zone.”

Tate Inniger (16 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists), Gannon Bolgrean (11 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists) and Wyatt Suter (10 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists) were the leaders for the Trojans.  Carson Hagen and Zach Bredman added 7 points apiece.

“We clawed back to within 9 with 7-8 minutes to go, but just couldn't get over the hump,” added Askegaard. “It sounds cliche, but we battled to the end and didn't give up. I was really proud of the guys for that. It would have been a nice game to get, but I know we are getting better. We are now 2-5 in the conference and 10-6 overall as we head to Breckenridge next Thursday.”

DGF (15-3, 9-0 HOL) travels to Osakis on Friday and will play at Pelican Rapids next Thursday.
