Pelican Rapids hosted Thief River Falls in a high school boys’ basketball contest on Thursday night.  The Vikings trailed 36-30 at halftime, but took a 41-40 lead with just over thirteen minutes to play.  From that point on, it was all Thief River as the Prowlers finished the game on a 34-9 run and went on to claim a 74-52 win over the Vikings.

The Prowlers had four players in double digits, led by Jesse McDougall with 20 and Jack Rosendahl with 19.  Jack Manning finished the game with 18, 12 of which came after halftime, and Caleb Rosendahl contributed 11.

Pelican Rapids was paced by Charlie Larson and Ian Fahje with 10 points apiece.  Hunter Williams chipped in with 9.

“We competed well in the first half and for the first six minutes of the second half, but just didn’t have enough in us to keep the game close after that,” said Head Coach John Gullingsrud.  “Thief River Falls is a talented team and they made us pay for some of our turnovers and missed shots in the second half when they broke away with a run that was fueled by transition baskets off of our mistakes.”

The loss snapped a four game winning streak for the Vikings and puts their record at 11-6 heading into their Saturday game at Sauk Centre.
