The Western Tech Cavaliers and M State lady Spartans had a very competitive battle in an MCAC Southern Division matchup on Saturday in Fergus Falls. The game featured five lead changes and five ties with Western Tech trailing 19-9 after one quarter, leading 28-26 at the half, falling behind 47-45 after three quarters and outscoring M State 20-11 in the fourth quarter to take a 65-58 victory over the lady Spartans.
The Cavaliers had two players register double-doubles, Bria Bahr (10 points, 13 rebounds) and Emma Geiwitz (21 points, 11 rebounds, 6 steals). Kaylee Skibba (15 points, 7 rebounds, 4 steals) and Sydney Jahr (12 points, 7 rebounds, 4 steals) were also in double figures for Western Tech. The Cavaliers shot 37.5% (27-72) from the field and held a 47-36 edge on the boards.
M State made 42% (22-52) of their field goal attempts. Keely Foley led the lady Spartans with 20 points on 7-of-11 shooting, including 3-of-5 from 3-point range. Lindsey Kurz added 11 points, 4 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 blocked shots. Emily Dehler added 10 points, 8 rebounds and 6 steals. Itzel Salazar distributed a team high 7 assists.
M State (10-11, 2-6 MCAC South) will host Anoka-Ramsey at 5:30pm Wednesday.
