Senior goaltender Ben Swanson stopped 43 of 45 Brainerd shots on goal Friday night to lead the Fergus Falls boys’ hockey team to a 3-2 win over the Warriors, giving the Otters a split of their home-and-home back-to-back games with each team winning on the road.  Fergus Falls had 23 shots on the Brainerd net in the game.

“Guys played well defensively and kept the play to the outside,” said Fergus Falls Head Coach Mike Donaghue. “We created a couple turnovers in the second period and were able to take advantage of them as well as executing on the power play.  Swanny had a tremendous night in the net.”

After a scoreless first period, the Otters got goals from Brayden Nelson, assisted by Shane Zierden thirty-five seconds into the period, and Jack Welde, unassisted at the one minute mark.  A power play goal by Leighton Buckmeier at 6:05 of the period was assisted by Colin Becker and Kellen StenstromJohn Finnegan put Brainerd on the board with assists from Brady Johnson and Sean Engelstad at 15:37.

Brainerd added a third period goal from Ryan Kennedy, assisted by Johnson and Finnegan.

Fergus Falls (9-7-1) snapped a four game losing streak with the win.  They will have a road game at Willmar on Monday and a home game with the Cardinals on Tuesday.
